There was one team room change for Saturday. I have updated the map to include this change. (McCord Jr. High)
Bottle Rockets
Please note that ALL rocket inspections will take place inside in Room 80. Students should report there about 5 minutes before their self-scheduled time. Please make sure your students are dressed properly to go outside. They WILL be walking through the snow to get to the launching field.
Disease Detectives
We did not have a volunteer step up to run this event so I got a student from MIT to write one for us and I have my dad proctoring it. With that said, we will do our best with grading, but we do not have a "Disease Detectives" expert to differentiate between what is on the answer key and what may be a similar & proper answer. Our best attempt will be made to provide points for accuracy, but please be understanding if we miss something. Thanks.
If your two teams are not attending this event at the same time please discuss with them the importance of NOT sharing any information with their other teammates who may take the test at a later time. If we discover kids cheating they will be Disqualified.
Elastic Launch Gliders
I tried to get the exact dimensions of the gym for you, but that proved to be a very difficult task. We estimate the ceiling to be a little over 20 ft (It is higher than that, but the rafters start there) and it is a full size standard basketball court. Hopefully this is helpful.
This is a spectator friendly event, but we will be closing the doors during an official launch time to limit air movement. Please note that wheeled vehicle is in the same gym off to the side. Please have your kids get to their scheduled time a few minutes early so they don't get trapped outside waiting to get in.

Photography
Please note that it is against Science Olympiad Policy to take pictures of any device except ones that belong to your team. This means you CANNOT take photos of the competitors bridge, wheeled vehicle, simple machine, air trajectory or glider without their permission. If you do, your team could be disqualified from that event.
A reporter from the Eccentric is coming by in the afternoon. Please let her know if you would NOT like your picture taken.
A photographer from our school will be walking around taking photos. I'll make her an official badge. She is going to swing by the events to see if you need any pictures of your set up taken to be posted with the tests and answer keys. Ex. Fossil specimens, Entomology specimens, Write It Do It, etc. She will also be taking photos of the events in general. Of course she will be drawn toward the building events ..... please politely let her know if you would prefer to NOT have your device photographed.

Event Supervisors
Please, please, please carefully READ through the rules for the event you are running. (Make sure they say 2015 at the bottom)
You are required to write, proctor and grade your event. (Make sure you have tie breakers already set. Review the rules for preset tie breakers)
You are responsible for bringing all supplies and setting up your event. (Unless you have already made arrangements with me.)
If you need ANYTHING, please let me know ASAP so we can help take care of it before Saturday.
Please check-in at the registration desk AT LEAST 30 minutes before your event is scheduled to run. Remember to allow enough time for set up. ALL event classroom doors will be locked until a supervisor is ready to enter. Please stop by Headquarters to get the door opened.
All events must be graded and into score headquarters by 4pm.
Please make sure you send me an electronic copy of your test & answer key so I can post them to the website.
Lunch & snacks will be provided in Staff Development 2 (by 600 hallway)
As soon as your event is over. Please clean up and go to the event grading rooms behind score headquarters.
If you have a building event, there is an online excel spreadsheet already set up to calculate the scores based off the 2015 rules. This is posted on the National SO website under your event name. Please consider downloading this at home, bringing a laptop to competition, and use it to do all your calculations. We have already printed the checklists and placed them into your Event Supervisor packet.
Remember, this is practice for Regionals. Use this competition as a teaching opportunity for the students. Be Flexible, but follow all rules. Help explain how students can improve in the future.
We will be at school Friday until at least 7pm. If you want to come by and set up your event you can. Please let me know so I can watch for you.
Thank you for taking your time to make this a positive experience for the kids!!
